WHY DO WE BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS TRULY THE WORD OF GOD?
2 Timothy 3:14-17
INTRODUCTION: Today’s question is “Is the Bible true and is the Bible truly God’s Word? So many Christians believe that the Bible is true and truly is God’s Word, but if you asked them why do you believe the Bible is true and why do you believe the Bible is truly God’s Word they could not tell you why they believe it. Today we will look at the evidence to prove that the Bible is not only true but is also the Word of God.
I. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE CLAIM FOR ITSELF?
The Bible makes some very big claims about itself. Today we will share together three of those claims. First, the Bible claims to be the Word of God not the word of man: 1 Thessalonians 2:13. The apostle Paul claimed to be preaching the Word of God, not the word of man: Hebrews 4:12. The Bible claims to be alive and active. John 3:19-21. So the Bible is the Word of God not the word of man. Second, The Bible is inspired by God and not invented by man. 2 Timothy 3:16-17: The Bible claims to be God breathed: John 3:7-8. God breathed His Word and men recorded it: 2 Peter 1:16-21. The Word of God did not originate in the minds of men. Men moved by the Holy Spirit, spoke from God. The Bible was not dictated by God, it was inspired by God. Third, The Bible is the truth of God, not the thoughts or ideas of man: John 17:17. All Scripture is inspired by God.
II. WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE WHAT THE BIBLE CLAIMS?
Now we are back to our original question: “Why should we believe what the Bible claims?” We will look at three reasons we should believe the Bible is God’s Word. First, the Bible has proven itself to be unique, reliable and true. The Bible contains sixty-six books which were written by forty different authors in a period of fifteen hundred years in three different languages on three different continents. The Bible’s primary message is the message of salvation. The Koran, that the Moslems say is their holy book was written by one man who got the message supposedly for the angel Gabriel. The Bible warns us about that: Galatians 1:6-9. You may say you cannot believe the Bible because science has proved it wrong. True science is observable and repeatable. The theory of evolution is not observable and it is not repeatable. Science is constantly evolving. Science once taught the earth was flat. But God’s Word said: Isaiah 40:22. The science of the day said the earth rests on Atlas or on an elephant but the Word of God said: Job 26:7. The science of Jesus day taught there were 1,023 stars but the Bible said: Jeremiah 33:22.
III. THE BIBLE IS TRUE CONCERING HISTORY!
The Bible proves itself true concerning history: Daniel 5:13-16. The Bible has proven itself true 100% when it comes to prophecy. In 750 B.C. Isiah wrote 150 years before a man was born exactly what he would do: Isaiah 45:13. There are 48 prophecies concerning Jesus the Messiah: where He was to be born: Micah 5:2. Jesus was to be born of a virgin: Isaiah 7:14. Second, The Bible has withstood the test of time and scrutiny. The devil hates the Word of God: Genesis 3:2-5. Satan takes the Word of God and tries to twist it so you say “I don’t know if I can trust the Word of God!” 1 Peter 1:24-25. The resurrection of our Lord Jesus proves the Bible is true: 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Acts 26:25-26. Third, the Bible is life-changing. The Bible changes people’s lives: 1 Peter 1:22-23. The Bible will change your life as you read it, believe it and apply it to your life! Jesus, when He returns to this earth has the Name: The Word of God! Revelation 19:11-16; John 1:14. Jesus is “the Word of God and the God of the Word!” The Lord has magnified His Word above His Name: Psalm 138:2 KJV. If you are an honest doubter about who Jesus Christ is and if the Bible is the Word of God read John 20:30-31. Then honestly look at the Gospel of John and If you are honestly seeking to know if Jesus is the Messiah and honestly seeking to know if the Bible is truly God’s Word you will find out!
