Why Are We Here? Part 2

WHY ARE WE HERE?

                                                         Isaiah 43:1-7

INTRODUCTION: We want to look at one of life’s biggest questions: “Why are we here?”

“What is the purpose for our lives?” Remember we said last week if we get the question “If

God really exists” wrong every other question in our series will also be wrong. Every other big

question we ask in life comes off that first question. For those who say God does not exist, the

answer to our second question: “What is the purpose of our lives?” will always be there is no

purpose for our lives: Ecclesiastes 1:2. If there is no God our lives are pointless. But praise the

Lord there is a God: Genesis 1:1-2. Evolution is a mathematical impossibility. Our universe is

very ordered and very complex: Genesis 1:1-2. Those who believe that God created everything

there is in this universe gladly say: “Yes, life has meaning because we were created by a loving

God!

I. OUR GOD IS A PURPOSEFUL GOD!

Everything God made, He made for a purpose: Proverbs 16:4. Our God made mankind

in His own image so we can know and love Him: Genesis 1:26. Our God is Spirit: John 4:24.

Mankind was created with a spiritual side. We have a body, we are soul and we are spirit.

Plants and trees have a body but they don’t have a soul or a spirit. Animals have a body and a

soul, they are aware of things around them. Mankind alone has a body, a soul and a spirit. Not

only are we aware of things around us, we also have a soul. We are aware of the spiritual world

around us. We are aware of God. Genesis 2:16-17. When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of

good and evil they died spiritually. Ephesians 2:1-5; John 3:3; Genesis 1:1. It is in our spirit that

we know God: John 17:3. When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we

become alive spiritually. Many claim to know God but it is only those who truly surrender their

lives to Jesus Christ that truly know God: Matthew 7:21-23. Why are we here: “God created

you for His glory so that you could glorify Him and honor Him: Isaiah 43:7. Moses wanted to

see God’s glory: Exodus 33:18-23. We serve a truly glorious God and He wants you to glorify

Him with your life: Isaiah 6:1-3; Psalm 19:1-4.

II. HOW DO WE GLORIFY OUR GOD?

If my purpose is to glorify God how are we to do that? 1 Corinthians 10:31. We glorify our

God by loving Him and obeying Him: Matthew 22:34-40. We love God by first of all receiving

His love for us: 1 John 4:19. Imagine, the God Who spoke the world into existence loves you!

Isaiah 40:17. When we truly love God, Jesus said this is the test: John 14:21. We can chose to

live our lives obeying God or we can chose to live our lives for our own pleasure:

2 Samuel 11:26-27; Romans 2:23-24. We glorify God when we love Him. And our love is

revealed through our obedience to His commands.

III. WE GLORIFY OUR GOD BY ABIDING IN HIM AND BEARING HIS FRUIT!

As we chose to abide in Jesus Christ His fruit is produced in our lives: John 15:4-8. “Abide in

Me!” That is the job of every Christian. We just stay connected to the Lord Jesus and He

produces His fruit in our lives. Psalm 149:4. Our God enjoys His people: Psalm 16:11. We are

called to spend time with the King of Kings and enjoy Him forever! Philippians 2:9-11. When

we surrender our lives to our Lord and seek to do His will instead of our own will we will glorify

our God and fulfill God’s purpose for our lives and we will enjoy Him forever!
