Truth Decay!

                                                                      TRUTH DECAY!

                                                                       Proverbs 3:1-18

INTRODUCTION: The Word of God tells us that the wisest man in the Old Testament times was

King Solomon, and he wrote most of the Book of Proverbs under the inspiration of God. Let me ask:

Can you get much better advice for living than from the wisest man in the Old Testament being

inspired by the Holy Spirit of God? Today with all the misinformation we see in every area of life we

wonder, whose advice it might be wise to follow. Solomon tells us Who we can trust one hundred

percent of the time: Proverbs 3:5-8. Today people are having a problem with trusting anyone

because of truth decay! We live in a society today that says, “There is no such thing as truth!”

Anything we trust in more than we trust in our Creator God will become an idol in our lives: Exodus

20:3.

I. THE RESULT OF TRUSTING ANYTHING OR ANYONE ABOVE GOD!

Anytime you trust anyone or anything to meet your needs other than God you are going to be

disappointed because no one and nothing else can meet your needs except God. So, we are living

in a culture where people are constantly disappointed with life. The result of trusting anything or

anyone other than God to meet our needs will always end in disappointment: Jeremiah 17:5-8.

When we trust in anyone or anything else to fulfill our lives we will be dominated by that thing:

Jonah 2:8. People spends billions of dollars each year on trying to discern the future, but our God

says: Proverbs 3:5-6. We create our idols and they always lead us astray: 1 Corinthians 12:2. The

idols we create for our lives can never meet our needs: Psalm 115:4-8.

II. THE HAPPINESS OF THOSE WHO TRUST IN GOD!

Since the Word of God tells us the only way to true happiness is in trusting in God why don’t we

simply learn to trust Him? Why is that even many Christians find it difficult to trust God with all their

heart? It is because we don’t know Him well enough. Instead of trusting God with all our heart, we try

to control God. We try to put God in a box. We have areas of our lives we do not wish to surrender to

His clear commands. If we are to trust God, you must come to know Him! Proverbs 3:5-6. We can

trust God because He always tells the truth: Hebrews 6:17-19; Romans 3:4. We always need to be

careful of trusting in men, but we can put all our trust in our Lord: John 10:10-11; Romans 8:35-

39. Our God created us to love us. We must learn to trust Him because He loved us first: 1 John

4:18-19.

III. TRUST GOD WHO IS IN CONTROL AND HE IS ABLE!

We can trust our Lord because He is in control of everything: Romans 8:28. Our God takes all

the things He allows in our lives and works them together for our good. Even when we make bad

choices in our lives our God works it all together for our eventual good and His glory. We can trust

God because He is always able to help us because He has promised to help those who trust in Him:

Psalm 23:1-6. Are you ready to begin trusting God with your life?
