TRUST IN GOD!
John 14:1-6
INTRODUCTION: Weather modifications are rapidly developing today in military installations around the globe to prepare for weather warfare. Using science to alter the climate, set of earthquakes and volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves is on the way.
I. REMAINING CALM DURING THE PREENT AND COMING STORMS!
As we await our Lord’s return to the clouds we can remain calm. Our bibles tell us that we have a God can calm all our storms: Psalm 107:29-30; Luke 8:22-25; Psalm 131:2 NKJ; Proverbs 17:27; Isaiah 7:4. “Calm” is a word that is known more for what it is not: agitation, fear, or turbulence. But “calm” does require some kind of storm or we would never notice the calm.
II. PANIC OR PEACE?
Today all around us people are having panic attacks because of the many storms of life they are going through. If anyone has ever had reason to be anxious it was our Lord Jesus on His last night on earth, but look at what He told His disciples: John 14:1. Jesus knew that His disciples were anxious about what was happening around them. John 16:33. Even our Lord felt the stress of His day: John 11:33; John 12:27-28; John 13:21. Our Lord Jesus experienced troubled times in His life and He can sympathize with our troubled hearts: Hebrews 4:15-16. Jesus knew His disciples were anxious about their own lives and Jesus comforted them with these words: John 14:1-6.
III. LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED!
When we, as Jesus disciples are overcome with anxiety we need to return to this passage as well. Jesus said to His disciples when trouble was about to fall on them and heaven was about to be silent: John 14:1. Jesus is going to ask His disciples to trust in four things He promised to provide courage and renewed strength for their troubles. 1.) Jesus asks us to believe in Him! John 14:1. The Jewish people believed in one God: Deuteronomy 6:4-5. Jesus said: John 10:30. We must learn that to believe what Jesus said we must learn to believe in Who He is! 2.) Jesus asks us to believe in a prepared place! John 14:2. Jesus here describes heaven as His Father’s house. Because our Father will be there His house will truly be our eternal home! Matthew 8:20. 3.) Jesus asks His followers to believe in His promise! When our God makes a promise, it is our rock of peace: John 14:3. The God of eternity longs to spend eternity with us: John 17:24. We gain hope even in troubled times as hope in Jesus’ guarantees. 4.) Jesus asks us to believe in His plan for our lives. Yes, Jesus has a plan for all our lives: John 14:5-6. Jesus is our map to home: He really is the way! In fact Jesus said He is the only way to the Father’s house! Jesus did not say He was a way to the Father’s house. He said He is the way, the only way to the Father’s house. John 14:6; Matthew 7:13-14; John 10:9; John 8:24; Acts 4:12. Many churches are not clear in their teaching of Jesus being the only way to heaven because it offends people. However the Scriptures are very clear here. What about teaching many ways to heaven? It seems so right! Proverbs 16:25. Remember, it is not about what seems so right; it is about what God’s Word says is right! Hebrews 9:27. If your name is not found written in the Lamb’s Book of Life you will not be allowed into the Father’s house. You have an invitation to the Father’s house but you must make your reservation. Revelation 20:11-15. The forecast during our time on this earth is stormy. But Jesus gives us an eternal forecast of a cloudless day and of eternal calm.
