The Value Of Your Soul!

Mark 8:27-38

INTRODUCTION:  Banana Flips and an icy cold coke are a delectable desert combination after a hard day’s work.   But if we get so caught up in how sloppy that Banana Flip can be we might just miss out on the best of what we so desire.  Our God has given us a wrapper.  Our bodies are wrappers for our soul.  So often in life we make the stupid mistake of taking such good care of the wrapper, our bodies that we might just lose our soul!  Mark 8:34-36.  Our bodies are important but what is contained within our body, our soul is of infinite value.  Our body is temporary but our soul is of infinite worth because it is eternal.  In God’s Word we are told that our body is the place where our soul lives: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10.  The wrapper of our bodies will be laid aside one day.  Our soul is made in the image of God and is eternal.  Our souls will abide either in heaven or hell forever.

What gives value to anything?  There are five things that give value to anything: 1.) Who made it.  The Bible tells us we were made by our Creator God!  Genesis 2:7; Ephesians 2:10.  We are God’s work of art: Psalm 139:14-16. 2.) The possibilities of the thing made.  It is not only what something or someone is but what they might become that gives it value.                  Romans 8:28-29; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Colossians 3:10; 1 John 3:1-3.  Our God is busy making all His children just like Jesus and every day we are becoming more valuable to our Lord!  3.) The third thing that gives value to anything is its durability!  Our soul being made in the image of God will endure forever: Revelation 14:9-11.  4.) The fourth thing that make someone or something valuable is how rare it is.  Do you know there has never been another soul just like yours?  Psalm 139:13-16. 5.) the fifth thing that makes a person or thing valuable is what will somebody pay for it?  1 Peter 1:18-19.  God loved you so much He allowed His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die so you might live eternally with Him.  God values your soul!  The question is “Do you value your soul?”  Mark 8:36-37.

Our Lord Jesus in our passage for today is talking business with us.  Are you at all interested today in profit and loss? Mark 8:36.  What would you sell your soul for?  Judas sold his for 30 pieces of silver!  No matter what we gain in this world we cannot keep it!  Matthew 6:19-21.  Real wealth is bottom line wealth.  What do you have that no one can take away from you and don’t won’t separate you from?  To gain the world and yet lose your soul is a tragic loss.  If you lose your soul it is an irreversible lose!

Hebrews 6:1-2; Hebrews 9:27-28.  One day. The angels in heaven will open the Book of Life to see if your name is written down.  Revelation 20:11-15.  To be lost beyond all time!  That is a tragedy beyond any other.  The good news is we don’t need to be lost!  John 5:24.  What keeps you from trusting in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?  Mark 8:34-35.  It takes conviction to believe what our Lord Jesus said?  The question is “Will you take Jesus at His Word?  Mark 8:38.  Will you publicly confess Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?
