IN THE KNOW!
John 10:22-30
INTRODUCTION: If there is anything this post-modern culture can agree upon it is that you
cannot be absolutely sure of anything. The post-modern view of God—“if there is a God nothing
certain can be known about God and you certainly cannot know Him personally.” The Word of
God says you can know two things that the post-modernist says you can’t. First, the Bible says
you can know God and know Him personally: Jeremiah 9:23-24. Second, the Bible says you
can know God eternally: John 10:27-29. According to Jesus Christ, there are three truths that
we can know with absolute certainty that are absolutely true and life changing.
I. WE CAN KNOW WE HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!
Many, who have trusted in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior still struggle with
doubt. You have doubts about whether you actually have a personal relationship with God, you
doubt the very existence of God and you doubt the Bible is truly the Word of God. Doubt has
been around for the entire 2,000 years of Christianity. Doubt is not the opposite of faith. Unbelief
is the opposite of faith. Jesus Christ spoke directly to the presence of doubt: John 10:27. “My
sheep know my voice.” Do you have an ear and a heart that is tuned to God’s Word and His
will? John 10:14. Jesus made a huge statement here: He said not only does He know His
sheep, but His sheep know Him! Jesus said those who truly know Him follow Him: John 10:27.
II. WE CAN KNOW WE HAVE A PERMANENT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!
Our Lord Jesus set it up so we can have an eternal relationship with Him: John 10:28. Every
word of that statement is crucial to our understanding the kind of relationship that God wants to
establish with us. This is eternal life, not earned by being good or can be lost by being bad.
Eternal life is a gift given to you when you trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and
Savior: John 3:36. The word “eternal” means it will last forever! When you trust Jesus Christ as
your personal Lord and Savior God gives you a divine warranty that that relationship will never
run out! John 10:28.
III. WE CAN KNOW WE HAVE A PROTECTED RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!
It is one thing in life to be safe. It is another thing in life to be secure. We have a God given
guarantee that once we have a relationship with God, it is a protected relationship that no one
can break. John 10:28-29. Jesus tells us here we are in a double grip. We are in the Son’s grip
and the Son’s grip is in the Father’s grip! God holds onto us: it is not us desperately holding onto
God! That means our relationship to God is just as secure as God Himself is. You are God’s gift
to His Son and God never takes back what He has given to His Son: John 6:37-40. A Biblical
world view lets us know that our knowledge of God and life itself is the truth, and we can know
both God and truth by faith. It is our faith that allows us to make informed decisions based on
overwhelming evidence of the truth of God’s Word! We don’t have to know everything to know
some things for certain. God has given us everything we need to know to live a godly life:
2 Peter 1:3-10. We all have our times of doubt, but here is the test: have you yet received
Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? John 1:12-13.
