I Am The Bread of Life!

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE!

                                                                John 6:32-35, 48-51

INTRODUCTION: If you are searching for the real Jesus in order to truly get to know Him a

great place to start would be the gospel according to John: John 20:30-31. In the gospel of

John, we are helped to learn of the real Jesus and come into a living relationship with Him which

will lead us to an abundant life here are eternal life in heaven. In the gospel of John, we see the

seven “I am statements of Jesus that together show us what He does and what He wants to do

in our lives as we find “life in His Name!” Matthew 16:13-15. Jesus made some very staggering

claims about Himself. If they are true, He is our creator God Who took on flesh. If they are not

true Jesus is either insane or He is a liar! John 6:48-51.

I. JESUS SATISFIES OUR SPIRITUAL HUNGER!

John 6:32-35: Each of Jesus I am statements come in a context. When our Lord talks about

being the bread of life it is in the context of a major event that had just occurred. In John 6 Jesus

had just performed a major miracle. Jesus had taken a boy’s lunch of five small barley loves and

two small fish and had fed over five thousand people: John 6:10-13; John 6:30-34. The Bible

tells us in Exodus 16:4, 14-15, 31, 35 about how God provided manna in the desert for His

people. The big deal about manna is that God supplied what His people needed! John 6:32-33.

Jesus is saying, just as God provided for their physical hunger, He will even more provide for

His people’s spiritual need and satisfy their spiritual hunger: John 6:48-51.

II. JESUS CHRIST SAVES YOUR SINFUL SOUL!

It is only our Lord Jesus Christ that can save our sinful souls: John 6:48-51. Our Lord Jesus

is the only one that can give you eternal life. Look again at John 6:50-51. Jesus is comparing

earthly bread with spiritual bread. When we eat earthly bread, it lasts a while, but we will still die

physically. The bread Jesus offers us will give us eternal life. When we die physically, we will

either experience eternal life in the presence of our God or we will experience eternal death

which means separation from our God. John 6:47. Now we are told that we cannot come to God

on our own: John 6:44. God must speak to our hearts and give us a spiritual hunger that can

only be filled with Jesus Christ. So, what is our part? John 6:28-29. When God draws us to

faith in Jesus Christ, our part is to believe; to take Jesus at His Word, and entrust our life to

Him.

III. COMMUNION SERVICE!

1 Corinthians 11:23-34: So, I want to ask you “Have you examined your heart. Have you

personally received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Are you walking in

communion with Him each day. When you fall short are you quick to confess and repent of your

sin? 1 John 1:9.
