GODLY MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN!

Colossians 3:15-20

INTRODUCTION: There are many commandments given in the Scriptures, but the first commandment with a promise is given in Exodus 20:12. Honoring our father and mother is not optional. Today is a day set aside specially to honor our mothers for their lives of sacrifice for us, their children. Mothers have the calling to nurture the faith of Christ in their children. Proverbs 1:8-9; Romans 12:17-21. Even grandmothers have a place in God’s plan to train up children for God’s glory: Titus 2:3-5; Deuteronomy 29:29; Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Proverbs 3:1-8;2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:9.

I. GODLY MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN THAT FOLLOWING GOD’S WAY WILL TAKE

COURAGE!

Godly mothers teach their children the way of the Lord: Isaiah 55:8-9, 11. Our God is faithful to every promise He has ever given: 2 Chronicles 16:9.

II. GODLY MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN TO LIVE BY FAITH!

Children often think to themselves: “If I obey the LORD there is no way this will work out the way I want it to!” Godly mothers tell them “Romans 1:17; Ephesians 2:8-9. Godly mothers will tell their children: “God has never failed one time in all of His promises to mommy. At times it appears that there is no way to win and obey at the same time. But if you chose to live by faith this promise from God’s Word can by yours.” Isaiah 54:17.

III. GODLY MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN TO WAIT ON THE LORD!

Everyone today seems to be telling mothers and their children “Go, Go, Go.” But that may not be from the LORD. Our Lord tells us: Psalm 27:14. When our God says “wait” it is for one of three reasons: 1. It maybe you are not ready for what He has for you. 2. The circumstance God is preparing for you is not yet ready. 3. God may know that what you have asked for is not right for you. Isaiah 64:4.

IV. GODLY MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN TO GIVE CHEERFULLY AND GENEROUSLY TO THE LORD’S WORK!

Godly mothers, both by word and by example teach their children to be generous in giving to the Lord’s work: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11; Luke 6:38; Proverbs 19:17.

V. GODLY MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN THAT THEY CANNOT LIVE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE; CHIRST MUST LIVE IT THROUGH THEM.

Mothers must teach their children that Christ must live His life through them. The Christian life can only be lived out by Christ! Matthew 11:28-30. Without Christ living His life through your children they will never by their own hard work live a life honoring to God. John 15:4-5. Godly mothers who teach their children the truths of God’s Word and set an example before their children will surely have the praise of their husbands, children, and Lord: Proverbs 31:28-3
