GIVE HIM NO REST!
Isaiah 62:6-7
INTRODUCTION: 2 Timothy 1:7; Isaiah 62:6-7. Thou the last Scripture reading applies to Israel it
also applies to the church and to our individual Christian life. The Lord is speaking here, and He tells
his watchmen to give Him no rest! God wants His children to persistently pursue what is right in
prayer! Not only pursue but to give Him no rest until He answers their prayers. When our God stirs
His people with a burden to pray, it is because He intends to do something in their midst. Our call to
prayer is a call of faithfulness: 1 Corinthians 4:2. If you desire the Lord to answer your prayer you
must be fully committed to your calling: 2 Chronicles 16:9.
I. PRAYING WITH ALL YOUR HEART!
When we are praying with all our heart, we will give God no rest until He answers our prayers:
Jeremiah 29:11-13. God knows His plans for us, but He chooses to prove our hearts before doing
His great work in us and then through us. The Word of God warns us that we must ask in faith,
pursuing our Lord without doubt and without giving up before we get the answer from God: James
1:5-8. This is not selfish praying. This is seeking the will of God because we are already blessed by
our God: Matthew 6:24-34. God blesses the faithful, not the selfish beggar.
II. GOD REVEALS THE NEED!
Often when God reveals a need in our lives it is something we must have or must do in order to
accomplish His will. We are to learn to pray without ceasing: 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Praying without
ceasing does not mean we pray nonstop, but that we consistently set ourselves aside for prayer
while we diligently are seeking His will. Isaiah 62:6-7. God’s call to faith begins with God declaring
His will—to establish Jerusalem in righteousness and make her a light to the nations. God then calls
His people to believe that promise and pursue it in prayer. That is praying in faith. It is to gain a
glimpse of God’s will through His Word and pursue it without accepting anything short of what the
Lord has revealed: Matthew 7:7-11. A self-centered life is blind to the secret counsel of God. Prayer
is founded upon a life built on faith, and faith comes from the Lord and His Word! Romans 10:17:
the prayer of faith will always be answered because we are asking according to His Word: 1 John
5:14-15. Our Lord delights when we pursue His promises and give Him no rest: Psalm 119:2-4.
III. FOCUSING ON THINGS ABOVE!
We are primarily to seek the will of God in our prayers: Colossians 3:1-2. When we focus
primarily on the things on this earth instead of focusing on the things God has spoken into our lives it
usually results in an anxious heart that loses its focus on being a watchman for God and we lose our
sound mind and our power! We must guard our hearts so that the molehills of our lives don’t
become mountains in our hearts that turn us away from our faith! Habakkuk 3:17-19. Notice here
that our joy in the Lord doses not come because of a lack of adversity. Our joy in the Lord is our
expression of our faith and gratitude to God, even in the midst of our trials! Psalm 22:3: The Lord
inhabits the praises of His people; therefore, as our hearts are praising Him, we will experience the
peace of God in the midst of any circumstance. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18. We are called to exalt our
Lord, not our personal circumstances. Praise and thankfulness are acts of faith. Isaiah 33:6;
2 Timothy 1:7. You can choose to be one of God’s watchmen!
