A Very Happy Father’s Day!

                                            A VERY HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

                                                               Psalm 128:1-6

INTRODUCTION: Father’s Day is second only to Mother’s Day in celebrating our parents.

Seventy-two percent plan to celebrate Father’s Day. Eighty-one-point eight percent celebrated

Mother’s Day. We are beginning to understand the presence of godly fathers and mothers in

our families today. God intends in the families of this world to have married parents; one man

and one woman who both love the Lord and to raise their children to love and know the Lord

Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. When you want to know God’s plan for the ideal

father, then you go to God’s Word. The Bible tells us the real situation even in the lives of some

of our Biblical fathers that they were a success in life but a failure as a father. One such father

was King David.

I. FATHERS MUST CONTINUE TO GROW IN THEIR FAITH AND OBEDIENCE TO GOD AND

HIS WORD!

Today we will look in depth what I like to call “The Growing Father’s Day Psalm.” Growing

fathers must give special attention to their faith. The first two verses talk about faith and a

man’s faith. In fact we are learning that the real key to faith in a family is the faith of the father

of that family. Here is the way to growing faith in our families: Psalm 128:1. The word for fear

in the Old Testament is a word for respect, reverence, and awe for the Lord. It carries over to

the New Testament way of saying put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, love Jesus Christ for all

He has done for you and all He will do for your family. The wisest decision you will ever make

dad is to give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ: Isaiah 33:5-6. A man must make many decisions

and many of those decisions are very important, but none is more important than the decision

to make Jesus Christ Lord and Savior of your life: Proverbs 9:10. Receiving the Lord Jesus Christ

as your Lord and Savior give you the proper center for your life: Philippians 1:21; Psalm 128:1.

The fear of the Lord is your inward life. Walking in His ways is your outward life. Sadly too

many men, even Christian men want to live their own way: Jeremiah 10:23 KJV. As we chose to

live for Christ’s glory the blessings of our labor will be prosperity not just financially but in every

area of our lives: Psalm 128:2.

II. FATHERS NEED TO GIVE ATTENTION TO THEIR FAMILY!

If you desire to have many happy Father’s Day then give attention to helping your wife and

your children to know and obey the Lord: Psalm 128:3-4. Let me ask you dad, what is it like

living in your house? What would your wife or your children say it is like living in your house?

Psalm 128:3. How is it dad with your wife? Are you her spiritual leader? Your family should

look to you dad as the spiritual leader of the family. Psalm 128:3. Having children is just the

beginning of the responsibility of being the spiritual leader of your home. You dad have the

God given responsibility to raise your children for God’s glory: Malachi 2:15-16.

III. FATHERS NEED TO GIVE ATTENTION TO THEIR FUTURE!

If you want to have a happy Father’s Day give attention to your future: Psalm 128:5. Good

fathers bring national blessings. It is because household government is the foundation of

political government. As fathers chose to live for God’s glory before their families it changes

those families to desire to walk with their father’s God. In order to have national revival we

need a revival of Godly fathers. We can affect future generations as well as we father well for

our Lord: Psalm 128:6. Every boy and girl need two fathers in their lives: Luke 2:48-49. Every

child needs an earthly father and a heavenly Father. Galatians 4:6.
