A VICTORIOUS CHRISTIAN LIFE!
1 John 5:1-5
INTRODUCTION: Our question for today is “How can we live daily a truly victorious Christian
life? Our key verses for today are I John 5:4-5. Our daily victory in this life is wrapped up in our
faith in what our God has told us in His Word and in our believing that Jesus truly is God’s Son.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us how important our faith is. John 1:12-13. Today we will look at four
steps we must take as believers in Jesus Christ to walk in victory in this world.
I. A FULL SURRENDER OF OUR LIVES FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!
Folks when we truly receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we are under
new management: Romans 12:1-2. True baptism is to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to our
God! We are to be holy and pleasing to our God. That is our true and proper worship.
1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17. True victorious Christian life is not lived by accident; we
must chose to die to ourselves and live for Christ’s glory actively on purpose or we will never
walk in victory.
II. SEEK TO BE CONSTANTLY FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT!
The filling of the Holy Spirit could be called “Allowing the Holy Spirit to take control of all
areas of our lives.” John 15:1-5 tells us that abiding in Christ is the same as being filled with the
Holy Spirit. We are commanded to live wisely and to be filled with the Holy Spirit:
Ephesians 5:`5-18. When we are filled with the Spirit of God He will produce His fruit in our
lives. Galatians 5:22-25. Sadly many Christian’s lives are more marked by the fruit of the flesh
than the fruit of the Spirit: Galatians 5:19-21.
III. THE STUDY OF THE SCRIPTURES DAILY AND PRAYING DAILY FOR CONTNUED
GROWTH TO CHRIST-LIKENESS!
We are commanded over and over in God’s Word to study is so we may learn our God’s
ways and His heart: 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV. Psalm 119:9-11. Reading your Bible regularly will
make you much more prone to obeying the Word of God: Mark 16:15; Psalm 119:11;
Matthew 5:27-28; Matthew 28:18-20; Philippians 4:4-7. We must learn how to literally pray
the Scriptures: Ephesians 1:15-21. We can ask our Lord to open our eyes to the truths we are
reading so that it affects every area of our lives: Psalm 119:18.
IV. ABANDON SIN AND EVERY WEIGHT THAT HINDERS HOLY LIVING!
When the Holy Spirit reveals to us that we have sin in our lives there is only one correct
response: Hebrews 12:1-2. When we claim we cannot get victory over our sinful nature we are
believing a lie of Satan: 1 Corinthians 10:11-13. Our God always gives His children the way of
escape from any habitual sin we might be involved in, but it is up to us to take that way of
escape our God has given us: Ephesians 4;17-24. Many of the things Christians get involved
with are not sinful in themselves they simply are not profitable to move us forward in the holy
life our God desires for us to live: 1 Corinthians 10:23-24. Here are four steps we all can chose
in order to move on to a victorious Christians life: 1.) Surrender our lives for God’s glory. 2.).
We must be filled with the Holy Spirit! 3.) We must study the Scriptures daily with prayer for
Christ-likeness. 4.). We must abandon the sin in our own lives that keeps us from walking with
our Lord.
