Mothering With A Passion!

                                            MOTHERING WITH A PASSION!

                                                                 Acts7:17-22

INTRODUCTION: Everything in life that accomplishes anything of value must be motivated by our

passion. Mother’s you are encouraged to raise your children for God’s glory and give that job all

your heart: Deuteronomy 6:4-7. Moses’ mother sets one of the greatest examples of motherhood

we find in the Bible: Acts 7:17-22.

I. THE PROBLEMS THAT WE FACE!

Just like all parents, Moses’ parents faced many trials. Just like them, we also will have trouble

raising our children in the love and fear of the Lord: Exodus 1:22. By not obeying Pharaoh’s

command to kill her newborn son, Jochebed must have worried that her whole family might be put to

death. We have a similar dilemma in our land because of abortion. We are still aborting around one

million babies, made in the image of God, every year in our land: Psalm 139:13-18. It is time for the

children of God to stand up in the home and raise our children to the glory of the Lord!

II. THE EXAMPLE WE FOLLOW!

Jochebed would not bow to the pressure of the world. God had a plan for her new son, Moses

and God has a plan for all your sons and daughters. Jochebed did all she could do to save her son,

but in the end, she had to trust Moses to the Lord. Our children in the first five years of their lives will

learn things that can insulate them from the dangers of this world. The Bible tells us as parents that

we are to train up our children in the way they should go Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4. Moms and

dads, this is your responsibility: Colossians 3:23-24.

III. THE PRINCIPLES WE INSTILL!

Jochebed instilled the dedication in her son Moses’ life that would later guide his life and his

decisions of life. Hebrews 11:24-26. Teaching our children what is important and knowing what is

right in our God’s sight is so important for our children. Jochebed taught Moses two things: first she

taught him who he was, a Hebrew and a child of God and second, she taught him who his God

was! These are the same things we must teach our children today. Who they are and who they are

in Christ. We must teach our children that every one of them is special and no one else has ever

been exactly like them. We must teach our children who God is, that God is the maker of the

universe and the Lord of their lives and the One who loves them like no one else ever could.

IV. THE PURPOSE WE TRUST!

Jochebed taught Moses the purpose of God that he must trust in: Hebrews 11:23-28. So, why

did Moses make such godly decisions even though he knew it would cost him dearly? It was

because Moses’ mother and dad gave Moses the right guidance. Moses gave it all up to follow his

mother’s God and to follow that God’s plan for his life because he was taught that Jehovah had

made him unique: Hebrews 11:23. Let me ask mom and dad; How do you see your children? Do

you see them just as ordinary kids or do you see them as uniquely gifted by God for His glory and to

be a special blessing to others? Ephesians 2:10. Mom and dad, do your children know that to you

and to their God they are unique and created for God’s purpose for them.
