Time Is Life!
Ecclesiates 3:1-8
INTRODUCTION: We are all a little anxious about time. Children are anxious because it seems so long to wait for the good stuff to happen. Teenagers are anxious about time because life comes so fast to them. Adults are anxious about time because their lives must be controlled by the time they have left. But what is time? Time is a measurable period in which all the events of life take place. Time is the stuff of which all our lives are made: Ephesians 5:15- 17. Our Lord contrasts for us how two different groups of people use their time; the fools and the wise.
I. THE FOOL!
It just might surprise you to know who the Lord says is a fool: Psalm 14:1. We might wonder how anyone could be so foolish to think that there is no God. It is because the fool thinks life just happened. The fool believes in an orderly universe with physical laws but no One who ordered it all into existence; no One who set those laws into effect. Creation and life just happened. So how does God say He will deal with the fools? Romans 1:18-32. The foolish man fills his days with only the concerns of this life. Why? Because he believes that this life is all there is to life: Luke 12:16-21. When the Lord calls you a fool, you are really a fool. If you are living only for the things and people of this life and have no relationship with Jesus Christ, God considers you to be a fool: James 4:13-17. A life lived for self without reference to the Lord will for your life will not end well.
II. THE WISE!
The Bible gives us good news, that is why it is called the gospel: it is truly good news that a fool can become wise. In fact the Bible tells us that at one time we were all fools: Colossians 1:21-23. Our Lord is the Source of all true wisdom and He gives wisdom to those who will learn the fear of the Lord: Proverbs 2:6. In fact the beginning of wisdom is to learn to fear the Lord: Proverbs 9:10. When we receive God’s wisdom into our hearts we should look for God’s fruit in our lives: James 3:13-18. As believers in Jesus Christ we need not misuse our time; we can invest our time for God’s glory and others good: Psalm 31:14-15. Have you placed your life, your times in God’s hands? Proverbs 3:5-6. The time we have on this earth is a gift to us and others from God and we are to use it wisely: Psalm 139:16. Hopefully you know that after this life there will be a judgment of God on all our lives: Hebrews 9:27. You might ask, “Just what will be judged?” God will judge how we have used our time and our talents. 1 Corinthians 12:1- 11. You see, God has gifted each of us with time and gifts. God desires for you to use those gifts for His glory and others good. We must learn why we are here and what God desires for us to do while we are here: 1 Peter 4:10-11. Every Christian is a steward of the Lord: 1 Corinthians 4:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. When our Lord saved us, He saved us unto good works He had planned for us to do: Ephesians 2:8-10. We must take the time to do those things our Lord has called us to: Philippians 4:4-7; 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV; Hebrews 10:24-25. We spend our time and our talents on what we treasure.
III. WHAT TIME IS IT IN YOUR LIFE?
Is it about time for your to be born into God’s family? 2 Corinthians 6:1-2. Have you ever asked the Lord what He would have you do with your time? Acts 9:6. Since we will give an account for our lives should we not be careful to invest our lives for God’s glory? Romans 14:11-12. May our Lord give you His wisdom so you can make the most of the time and talents He has entrusted to you: Psalm 90:12.
