Living A Spirit Filled Life!

LIVING A SPIRIT FILLED LIFE!

2 Kings 6:1-7

INTRODUCTION:  Our prayer for our lives should be that each one will make an impact for our God in this world!  If we will walk with our God He will make our impact on our family, friends, and community be an impact that will last forever!  If we are going to impact our world in that way we must first be a spiritual people.  2 Kings 6:1-7.  The first step to having spiritual power is to realize that we lack spiritual power in our lives.  This ax head illustrated the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

  1. THE AXE HEAD WAS LOANED!

This young seminary student had no axe of his own, he had to borrow one from another source.  Any spiritual power that we have is borrowed from our God: 1 Corinthians 4:7.  Whatever impact we will ever have on this world is because we received it from our God.  All that we have belongs to our God: 2 Corinthians 4:7.  What do you think is the number one need in our churches today?  Do you think we need more training or more money?  So many of our churches today are like the church of Laodicea: Revelations 3:14-17.  Perhaps you think our churches need more harmony but without the Holy Spirit bringing true harmony it will never happen.  What we need today is spiritual power in ourselves and in our churches!  The axe head is gone!  Whatever you might call the filling with the Holy Spirit it is what we desperately need today!  Without the filling of the Holy Spirit we will never make a lasting impact for our God.  We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit because God’s Word commands it: Ephesians 5:18.  Not being constantly filled with the Holy Spirit is as much a sin as being drunk!  When we are not filled with the Holy Spirit we are like a man trying to cut down a tree with an axe handle.  There is no substitute for the power of God in our lives.  God’s work demands the filling of the Holy Spirit!  Romans 12:1-2.  We must abide in Christ in order to be filled with His Spirit:          John 15:1-5.  What we need the most is what we miss the least: the filling with the Holy Spirit!

     2.  THE AXE HEAD WAS LOST!

2 Kings 6:5: this axe head was lost as the prophet was serving his God.  Do you understand that you can lose God’s power even as you are serving Him?  When we lose that power, we will not have an impact on our world even as we go right on serving our Lord until we get it back!  We can go right on with the motions of worship but lack the power of our God!  The apostle Paul feared one thing: 1 Corinthians 9:27.

     3.   THE AXE HEAD WAS LOCATED!

The prophet had concern that he had lost the axe head: 2 Kings 6:5.  We must first get concerned about not being concerned!  We must confess our loss: Remember, the place of losing is the place of finding.  If you have ever had the fullness of the Spirit in your life and have lost it God will take you back to that place.  There will be a cleaning:  That axe head swam on the water back to the spot where it was lost.  Our God does not want our lives to be natural; He wants them to be supernatural!  Jesus Christ is our branch: Isaiah 11:1: Jesus Christ shed blood will cleanse us from all sin: 1 John 1:9.  God will not fill a dirty or full of other things type of a vessel.  2 Corinthians 7:10; 1 Peter 5:7.  God’s power is there for any who are willing to take it!  John 15:4-5.  God doesn’t fill us with His Spirit so we can toot our own horn.  God fills us with His Spirit so we can be mightily used of Him.
